Dr. DOCTOLERO

Seattle Psych Studio is the private practice of Clara Doctolero, PsyD. Dr. Doctolero has 14 years of extensive experience with treating emotion dysregulation, impulsivity, substance abuse, depression, anger management, eating issues and anxiety in a variety of settings including rural Hawaii, Veterans Administration, and her most recent appointment as a staff psychologist with the Evidence Based Treatment Center of Seattle (EBTCS).

Dr. Doctolero is formally trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) through a two year post-doc at EBTCS. This position allowed her to participate as an individual therapist and skills teacher in a University of Washington research trial conducted by Drs. Melanie Harned and Marsha Linehan, the developer of DBT.

Currently, Dr. Doctolero provides supervision for DBT graduate students at UW who teach DBT skills class. She also lectures on DBT skills to UW Harborview Medical Hospital residents with Kate Comtois, PhD. She has a background in cognitive behavior therapy, short-term and long-term psychotherapy, and relaxation training. In addition, she provided behavior therapy to children, adolescents, and adults diagnosed on the Autism spectrum, along with their families.

Dr. Doctolero is dedicated to cultural sensitivity in the practice of psychology and is familiar with a wide range of patients in age, ethnicity, cultural traditions, and socioeconomic status. She received her doctoral degree from Argosy University of Honolulu, an APA accredited program, and completed her internship at Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center on the island of Oahu. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Veterans Administration Puget Sound Health Care System prior to her DBT work.

Dr. Doctolero is licensed in the state of Washington #PY60084603. She is a member of the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Foundation and the American Psychological Association (APA). She is also a member of the Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT). In her free time, Dr. Doctolero spends time with her partner and their toddler son. Dr. Doctolero is also part of an extra large family that includes about 20 first cousins and their children. They are all maternal relatives and they all reside in the greater Seattle area.
